Peregrine Ridge has won the trophy for the Best Sparkling Red at the 2014 Australian Sparkling Wine Show.
The winning wine was the 2006 Winemaker’s Reserve Sparkling Shiraz Late Disgorge. Matured in 100% new French oak for 18 months and then bottle fermented for a further 81 months, it is a fine example of the style.
Peregrine Ridge has now won this trophy for successive vintages of this wine, with the 2005 Winemaker’s Reserve Sparkling Shiraz Late Disgorge scooping up the trophy in 2011.
The judges were all sparkling wine experts and included:
- Greg Melick (Chairman of Judges – respected national and international wine judge)
- Ian McKenzie (Seppelts chief sparkling winemaker for many years)
- Glenn Thompson (Domain Chandon chief sparkling winemaker)
- David Cowburn (Managing Director, Kilchurn Wines – sparkling wine specialists)
So, according to the judges, Heathcote is once again, the home of the best Sparkling Red in Australia!!
The Winemaker’s Reserve Sparkling Shiraz is well suited to terrines, duck and Christmas fare. This wine is being released in early December, in time for the festive celebrations.
