Peregrine Ridge has won the trophy for the Best Single Vineyard Sparkling White or Pink Bottle Fermented Dry Wine at the 2017 Australian National Single Vineyard Wine Show, which is judged in conjunction with the Cowra Wine Show.
The winning wine was the Non-Vintage Sparkling Shiraz – Cuvee C3-D2. This wine won Gold in the Sparkling Red/Rose class before taking out the trophy. This is the second national trophy awarded to this cuvee, the first being the Trophy for Champion Sparkling Wine at the 2016 Australian Small Winemaker’s Show. It has also received three gold medals.
C3-D2 is a blend of 2012 and 2013 fruit and it follows in the footsteps of the earlier cuvees which have won in aggregate, 4 trophies and 8 gold awards. It has been dosaged with a small quantity of estate grown fortified Shiraz, which adds richness and complexity. The cuvee was matured in 15% new and 85% seasoned (predominately 1 year old) French and American oak for 20 months prior to bottling and then bottle fermented for a further 36 months, to enable the cuvee to fully develop its rich and complex bottle fermentation characteristics.
Cuvee C3-D2 has a wonderful bouquet of sweet blackberries and raspberries, which follow through to the palate. Try serving this wine with a rich brie, pate, terrine or duck and if you’re thinking about Christmas in July already, the turkey and ham!
